Brief Background on the Institute:

Kamji Central School is located at an altitude of approximately 1200 meters above the sea level. It is one of the two schools of Gelling Gewog catering to the education need of more than 500 children of the gewog and nearby locality.

Most of the inhabitants under this gewog are herds-men. They mostly depend on animal products and have hardly any arable land. There were times when the Punaps, Wangdueps and people from the west used to come and buy ‘Jatsham’ and ‘Jatshas’ from them. Kamji literally means ‘Dry- Land’. By then only small vegetable gardens were maintained by some residents.

Kamji Central School is established on a small hillock, surrounded by alpine afforested trees. It lies just below the Phuentsholing- Thimphu highway at about a distance of 25 kilometers from Phuentsholing. It has moderate temperature both during summer and winter but fog dominates its weather during monsoon season. Kamji is a peaceful and idle place for learning. Above the school is a beautiful hillock perched with serene and sanctifying place by KamjiLhakhang and harmoniously co-exists with the school.
